What SS-31 is

SS-31 (elamipretide, MTP-131) is a synthetic tetrapeptide, D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2, built from alternating aromatic and cationic residues. That pattern lets it cross cell membranes and concentrate in the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it binds the phospholipid cardiolipin.

Research literature studies SS-31 in mitochondrial bioenergetics, cardiolipin binding, reactive oxygen species and ischemia-reperfusion models, and age-related mitochondrial function in preclinical studies.
